Large scale work needs a hierarchy. Some elements lead the composition while others connect the space, create rhythm or give the main subject room to breathe.
The direction can come from mythology, sculpture, religious imagery, animals, narrative concepts or Japanese inspired Black and Grey. The subject may change. The focus remains on how the complete tattoo works on the body.

The consultation is where the scale, placement and direction begin to take shape. You do not need to arrive with every detail decided.
Build the composition
Alex considers the main subject, supporting elements, movement, contrast and how the project will connect across the body.
Plan the sessions
Large projects are divided into stages. The exact number and rhythm of the sessions depend on the final scope and placement.
Develop the project
The composition is developed as a whole so each completed section contributes to the larger image.

Before starting
a tattoo project
01What is considered a large scale tattoo project?
Sleeves, back pieces, chest and torso work, and compositions that extend across several connected areas are usually considered large scale. The important point is that the project is planned as one composition rather than as separate tattoos.
02Do I need to have the complete design before the consultation?
No. A clear general idea, the intended placement and a few useful references are enough to begin. Alex can help define which elements support the composition and which may make it feel crowded.
03Can a sleeve be developed around an existing tattoo?
Sometimes. Alex needs clear photos and may need to see the area in person before confirming how an existing tattoo can be included, reworked or covered.
04How many sessions will a large project require?
It depends on the placement, level of detail and final scale. After the consultation, Alex can explain the likely scope and how the project could be divided into sessions.
05Can the consultation take place online?
Yes. Initial consultations can take place in Zürich or by video call. Cover up projects normally need to be assessed in person.
06What references should I send?
Send images that explain the subject, mood or visual direction you are drawn to. They do not need to be tattoo references. Photos of sculpture, painting, film, nature and architecture can also be useful.
07Will I see the design before my tattoo appointment?
The design is normally presented on the day of the first tattoo appointment. Alex reviews it with you before starting. If small changes or additional details are needed, they can be handled at that time. If the project requires further discussion, Alex may ask for another consultation before the tattoo appointment.
08Is a deposit required to reserve the tattoo appointment?
Yes. After the consultation, if you decide to book, a security deposit is required to reserve the appointment. The deposit is applied to the price of the tattoo and is not refundable.
